Simple search engine optimization

On page Search engine optimization (SEO) simple? When you build clusters of keywords using this system it is. The techniques we started with are as effective now as they were in Jan 2011 when we started using them. We have several articles pulling readers using nothing more than these simple techniques and no back linking.

Realize when you are writing you are trying to reach an audience. You want people to read what you have written. It is what you title your article that will usually contain the words your audience is searching for. Choose them wisely. The approach we use is choosing words then searching them. It is rare now for us to actually open anything we find in the search. We do read what the search engine has picked up because this gives us ideas and other words which might be more effective. It also helps us pick the niche we want to be found in.

Remember that not every keyword is searched often. There are free tools that let you know how often certain words are searched but for this article we are not going to go into them. We are going to use an example from our own work. We find doing simple searches enjoyable.

Say you are writing an article on training a horse. Horse would be the first word you would search. As of today May 18, 2012 this brings up 73,900,000 results. Horse training brings up 27,900,000 results. Although breaking a horses spirit is something we have no intention of we learned breaking is more often searched. It has . Since our goal is to let people know there are approaches other than breaking we use it. The search for breaking brings up results up to 49,100,000 results May 18, 2012. It’s going to take a really well optimized article to hit the top of that niche.

We don’t like pain for us or any animal so lets add gentle. Now we are down to 403,000 results and with this keyword cluster we are ranked page 1. Since we are not alone in believing it is better to be gentle these keywords are searched thus bringing us readers because they are finding us on page 1 of a search engine. We have also narrowed our niche bringing in the readers we really want. As time passes Google adds relevance for linking and sharing. We just found this article page 1 against 115,000.000 competitors. April 21 2012. It is also ranking on several page one slots. Now for the keyword cluster gentle breaking a horse. May 18, 2012. The competition is now 1,720,000 for these keywords it is page one top of page.

This is what simple search engine optimization is all about. Putting your article in front of the audience you are writing to. All the fancy programs in the world can only speed up the process. Learning to do it the simple way is really the best. Once you have this down in reality you are dependent upon one thing. Your brain is the best search engine optimizer that exists.

For our example article we used the title and on the platform we used we were able to add a summary which contains our keywords gentle breaking once and horse twice. If you can find a way to do it you can add your keywords to your summary up to three times before they start considering an article spam. You have to use sentences that make sense because if you don’t you just hit the spam list. WE KNOW because we like many learned the hard way.

It is recommended to make your keywords bold if the platform allows. You can also use your keywords in sub titles again if the platform allows. If pictures are allowed and you can find a way to use your keywords in some way that is recommended. In our example article we used this method. This is especially if you place the picture at the top right hand side of the article.

The rule of thumb is make sure to use your keywords close together in any order one time within your article. Up dated after the latest Panda. Having them within the first two sentences is probably the most important. If you can’t put a summary in these first few sentences are what a search engine is going to pick up and what people will see when searching for you. You want your keywords there because this is what your article should be about.

Around the center use them again make them fit and make it feel like there is a reason for them to be there. They don’t have to be in order or even in the same sentence just within sixty five characters of each other.

Search bots search the entire article looking for keywords and sometimes we have found that by using this method it is actually this grouping we are finding on search engines. This works especially well when you can’t add a summary. Even when you can use a summary doing this is showing your keywords are relevant.

Somewhere along the way we learned that in good writing your final paragraph is a summary of what you have written. We don’t always use this paragraph properly but now make sure our keywords are in it. This again to show our keywords are relevant to the article.

The reason people write is to have what they have written read. It is just a waste of brain power to write if what you have written is not being found. You can now see that search engine optimization is simple if you use these tips and your brain.

This is something we keep up to date with and is more important now than ever before because we are writing website content and articles for others. It is one of the highest maintenance areas of the internet to write in. To say nothing of keeping up to date in.

Thanks for dropping by and your comment bryanbaldwin.

Breaking it down! Thank you. SEO is always changing and evolving but some things will never change. Thanks for the refresher in my mind.

Yes there is a way to change a summary. As far as I know there is nothing we can't change with the exception being what your original title was will always show even if you change it, unless you delete the hub and start over. Looks like I need to write another hub pages tutorial. Give me a few weeks.

Very good article. Is there a way you can go back in and edit a summary? I have not found a way, and I know in some of mine, I neglected to include key words. Thanks.

Thanks Brett, Search engine optimization is always a work in progress. This hub is updated more often than I care to admit. I have been told recently search engine optimization was a bad choice. It changes so rapidly it is hard to keep up which makes it high maintenance.

The basics remain the same, however little changes seem to be necessary from time to time. Like the ranking on the article I used as an example. It just keeps moving up. At last check is was still found in it's original niche, for the keywords to take it to the lower competition placement.

prairieprincess thanks for dropping by. Glad you find my information to have value. Since this article was about on page optimization we didn't talk about other ways to optimize. More optimization now happens off page. Others sharing your work does way more than you understand. Others commenting on your work does wonders too. Even negative comments can help with ranking, as long as they are keyword relevant.

Wheelinallover, this is a great, simple explanation of SEO and how it works. And your reason is so right -- if we are not read, why write? I just recently (last night) started re-writing some of my older articles to make them more keyword friendly. I hope that it results in more traffic for me, because I want to be read, too!

Wheelin, I always learn so much from you. Thanks so much again! Take care.

mary615 I write on three "blogging" platforms and have published ezines. The simple tips in this article have worked from the beginning. I do use programs for keyword searching and programs which are supposed to show how well optimization is working and rarely have to change a thing. Thank you for coming by and your comment.

Deepak Chaturvedi search engine optimization has changed a lot within the past 13 months. Making sure keywords are used in an article is important only to show search engines relevance. Summaries containing the keywords are more important as well as reputation, where your link shows up, and what people are saying about you and your article. Most of the actual optimization is now done away from an article.

viking305 I agree about choosing keywords being important. For my article about training horses I had to optimize the word breaking and have had emails telling me "breaking" has a bad connotation. I have also had comments saying the same. That article is about training not "breaking" the horses spirit, but people search breaking more often. I optimized to the keyword which was searched most, as a way to reach those who believe breaking is better than training to show them a better way.

Tams R when my first article was published (not on hub pages) I must have hit something right. I was told the SEO for that article worked fine. It took a week of waiting to be sure it passed duplicate content tests, grammar, content, and unique content. I honestly had no idea what SEO even was when I wrote that and several of my first hubs here. They also are ranked page 1 of Google in their respective niches. I have managed to move a website up in rank simply by writing articles (on another platform)using the same keywords and creating back links to the website.

I can assure your of two things. The horses spirit was never broken and he would love an apple. The only problem is I have no idea where he is today. When you train horses for other people it is impossible to keep up with all their whereabouts. The last I heard and that was 9 years ago they had moved him to Missouri.

Thank you for helping me along my crippled path to learning SEO. I honestly wish I could just write and not worry about these things, but I suppose it is yet another "one bad apple" situation. I dislike bad apples, possibly the broken horse would like one.

nityanandagaurang it was made as simple as possible. It had to be working or it would have been no use to anyone. If you can show someone an example of something which is working sometimes it is simpler to understand. This was the goal of this hub. More of the search engine optimization is done off page now and other than our sharing with social networks it is on hub pages to get our back links. I want my work seen so optimize off page as well. A hub about that is in the thinking stage.

kevins blog52 Use the tips with my blessing. In reality I have just raised the bar for myself. Nothing to help someone improve like creating competition.

pedrn44 I know how you feel. When I started writing online I didn't know what a keyword was much less how to use one. It seems in spite this I managed to get two articles ranked page 1 in very small niches. It took time to reach page 1 against 176,000,000 competition. Believe it or not it was done using only using the tips in the article.

peoplepower73 Enjoy your book. If you haven't bookmarked this article it is our advice for you to do so. Everything in this article is working for me right now and when it changes so will the article. Our goal is to share what is working today updating or writing another hub with what is current. With the techniques in this article I have personally seen eleven page one rankings for the same article six with over a million competitors.

Dahlia Flower Thanks for dropping and your comment.

The term which truly fits is horse training. You don't want a horses spirit broken, which I believe is where the original term came from. It is the most common used term and you have to reach those who use the term. It is impossible to change someones way of thinking if you can't reach them.

Reaching the target audience is important and this is what search engine optimization makes possible.

In the years I worked with horses not a single one we trained had it's spirit broken. They were trained by example, with patience, and in a loving environment.

Dahlia Flower profile image

Dahlia Flower 3 months ago

Very interesting -- except for the 'breaking a horse' part. Did you know the horse whisperer (Buck) has a whole different method and he teaches why breaking a horse is the absolutely worst way to go about the training of a horse. But possibly you just use that term, but don't really mean it?

gjfalcone We are all in this together. What helps the newbies and those who are writing without optimizing helps not only me but everyone on hub pages. If something I have a link in my hub gets a reader to that link we have both gained.

jainismus There are a few who have been publishing for a while now who have said these tips have helped them. These are not only the first steps but things which have to be done with every article. On other platforms I have managed to rank page 1 of 176,000,000 results using just these techniques.

I publish articles on simple search engine optimization on two platforms at the moment and will soon be on a third.

Sun pen this is why I put the article together like I did with examples which can be searched and show the exact results which were achieved. Tips were given with the idea the keywords will be searched as they are for this article. The title tuner on this one comes up with the same keywords just in a different order.

These ideas are about as simple as they can get. They of course would not be as effective for a very long article unless the keyword cluster shows up between seven and nine percent overall.

I like the way you said it's a waste of brain power to write if it's not being found. This is why I pay a lot of attention to how I use keywords when I write. And I seem to be doing well with it. But wow! I learned a few more important details from reading your Hub. I'm going to have to review this from time to time to be sure I'm taking advantage of all the methods you mentioned. Thanks. Voted up.

With hubs the only ones who might call anyone a spammer are other hubbers. If you overuse keywords other hubbers are the only ones who will be reading, because search engines are going to ignore them.

I have found that to keep some of my writing intact optimization is out of the question. I am considering pulling those hubs down. The sad part is many people have told me those are my best work.

SEO is a world of its own. I think its best thinking about SEO prior to launching your hub. It can be done afterwards. But, I hate tampering with something that is already good to go. Obviously, audience is very important. Your tips and advice on SEO are very helpful. We do have to be careful, like you said, of not being labelled a spammer. SEO strategist sounds a lot more better than spammer. Lol. Thank you. Voted up.
